Musician and journalist Banning Eyre interviews the guys from The Very Best (DJ Duo Radioclit and Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya for Afropop. They do some great Kwaito tracks, remixes of MIA and have a catchy track with Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend. I saw these dudes play one of their first shows in NYC and it was pretty off the hook.

Much ink has been spilled over the fate of hip-hop in recent weeks. I just finished an excellent dissertation by a friend in Chicago on the topic, and Sasha Frere-Jones contrasts Jay Z’s new record with the up and comer from the Midwest Freddie Gibbs – check a track off his mix tape below. This track is waaaaay laid back. Another interesting piece in the Village Voice by Amy Linden uses Def Jam’s 25th anniversary as a jumping off point.
