Musician and journalist Banning Eyre interviews the guys from The Very Best (DJ Duo Radioclit and Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya for Afropop, and NPR has a “Music We Missed” end-of-year feature where you can sample some tracks.

The Fate of Hip Hop
Much ink has been spilled over t
he fate of hip-hop in recent weeks. I just finished an excellent dissertation by a friend in Chicago on the topic, and Sasha Frere-Jones contrasts Jay Z’s new record with the up and comer from the Midwest Freddie Gibbs – check a track off his mix tape below. This track is waaaaay laid back. Another interesting piece in the Village Voice by Amy Linden uses Def Jam’s 25th anniversary as a jumping off point.
